Developing an IT strategy means aligning the IT organization with
the prospective business needs of your customers in a 5-year time frame.
A written IT strategy enables you to paint a picture of the future
for customers and employees alike, to describe the big tasks that
lie ahead, and to deduce necessary first steps.
We want to be your partner on this road to effective leadership
of your IT organization. Together we develop vision, mission, and
short-term goals:
- Vision:
What does our customers' future look like in five years,
and where will be our place?
Possible scenarios of this future will be described, and your
distinctive contribution has to be identified. This will make
your organization the customers' business enabler. When the vision
is clear, you shall be able to say, "it may sound crazy, but
I believe that we can make it!"
- Mission: What is our task, and which means will we employ
to realize the vision?
Taking the vision statement as a baseline, we design the structures
your IT organization needs to make it come true. People, technology,
and organization have to be taken in consideration: Which skills do
the employees need, what must be their understanding of their
respective roles? What do the IT architecture and the tools for
day-to-day business look like? Which processes and hierarchical
organization are needed? Exploring strengthes and weaknesses of
the current organization will clarify the necessary changes.
- Short-term goals:
How will we know we are on the right track?
Measurable goals on a realistic time scale have to be set, which focus
on the vision and take the current state into account. Our framework
for orientation consists of the dimensions customer, finance,
processes, and potentials - the building blocks of a Balanced Scorecard.
Further steps on the path to operational implementation of the strategy
may include setting up a service portfolio, modelling the organizational interface
to the customer, or analyzing threats and opportunities, checking
external influences on future developments.
